Photo Gallery Software Linux

I need a portable webserver that can be run on both windows and linux. Any suggestions? Preferably open-source?
I need it to run on a Flash drive. It needs to be small because I’m hoping to use it as a portable photo gallery. It needs to be cross-platform so it can run both on Windows for my family and GNU/Linux (Ubuntu) for me. I hope that it can be Open Source software (GPL), but freeware is ok too.
If you run it from a flash drive, just run one of several live CD’s that will install to a USB drive. At most you’ll need to install a web server. The OS on the computer won’t matter since it will boot and run from the USB drive.
Puppy Linux comes to mind as it is small (under 100Meg iso) and will boot from a USB drive or a CD. I can’t remember if Puppy comes with a web server or not. If you leave the OS on the CD and just store the files to the USB drive then you’ll have plenty of room for pictures and everything else.
Another feature of Puppy is it can create it’s own iso image so you could install your web server, burn a new iso and your USB drive would just have pictures stored on it. You’ll have to install it to a hard drive to do this, but old hard drives and perhaps even old computers are probably available to do the work.
There are probably other web server dedicated live CD’s available if you look for them. Puppy is just one I found to be real handy with a lot of cool features. In any case, the live CD avoids the need for cross platform since the OS is on the CD. If you do it right, all you’d need to do is make copies and distribute as needed.
